my gratitude to all our wonderful staff, in every post and in every sector, whose daily efforts epitomize the meaning of excellence, to our volunteers who perform such blessed deeds, and to the charitable organizations whose assistance is vital in mobilizing contributions on our behalf. Looking ahead, we aim to build an additional hospital tower, upgrade units and equipment, foster links with leading pediatric centers in the world, and advance personal achievement. Our mission is to persevere so that we can continue to spearhead pediatric medicine in Israel and take it to new heights of accomplishment. I close with words of appreciation and esteem that define the start and the conclusion of Schneider Children's first twenty years. Firstly, to our dear Schneider Family: we salute you and acknowledge your huge contribution towards the establishment of the hospital. And secondly, to Ziv Koren, whose moving and unique panorama exemplifies Schneider Children's in all its myriad facets.

מעולם לא נחנו על זרי הדפנה, וגם עתה אנו ממשיכים להביט קדימה: באיכות הרפואית, בשירות, בטכנולוגיות, במחקר ובהוראה, במחויבותנו להוות גשר לשלום. התוכנית להקמת בניין נוסף, שדרוג מתמיד של היחידות ושל הציוד, שימור הקשרים עם בתי חולים לילדים המובילים בעולם, קידום המצוינות האישית של הרופאים ואנשי הצוות - כל אלה הם רק חלקים בפאזל העשייה הענק שלנו. משימתנו לחפש תמיד את "החתיכה החסרה" - ותמיד אפשר למצוא כזאת - כדי להמשיך להוביל את רפואת הילדים בישראל ולקדם אותה להישגים חדשים. אני מבקש לסיים בהוקרת תודה כפולה, התוחמת את עשרים שנות שניידר משני קצותיה של התקופה. בראש ובראשונה למשפחת שניידר היקרה: כולנו מצדיעים לכם ומוקירים את תרומתכם הגדולה להקמת בית החולים ואת מעורבותכם הברוכה בו. וכמובן, תודה לצלם זיו קורן, שהעניק לנו תיעוד ייחודי ומרגש של העשייה על פניה השונים - והריהי לפניכם בספר זה.

We have come a long way since that day in the Fall of 1991 when the first children’s hospital was launched in the State of Israel. Over the years, Schneider Children’s has completely transformed the practice of pediatric medicine and dramatically influenced medical tradition in the country. In the 80’s, when the hospital’s founders, Irving and Helen Schneider, presented their vision and idea of an independent hospital solely dedicated to children, it seemed like an impossible dream. Today it is clear that the acquaintance with pediatric sub-specialties evolved from the establishment of Schneider Children’s. The dream became a reality, without which it is impossible to imagine our lives. We can be enormously proud of the hospital's medical achievements, standard of services, and its unique approach to treating the sick child and his family. For good reason Schneider Children’s is a leading brand name for Clalit Health Services, a model for imitation, and a huge resource for medical students, residents and specialists in Israel and the world. “Schneider Children’s” is synonymous with pediatric medical excellence. The success of Schneider Children’s derives first and foremost from its quality personnel that rallied around the hospital. Their ability to give life and quality of life - engendering the hope and smile of every child - is exactly what makes our hospital so special. Many of our senior physicians have won awards over the years, two of whom were recipients of The Israel Prize for Medical Research. It is here that I would like to express

, שבו הושק בית 1991 דרך ארוכה עשינו מאז אותו יום בסתיו החולים הראשון לילדים במדינת ישראל. בעשרים השנים שחלפו שינה מרכז שניידר את רפואת הילדים בארץ ללא היכר והשפיע השפעה מכרעת על התרבות הרפואית במדינה. המקצועיות של צוותי שניידר, ההישגים הרפואיים, רמת השירות ותפיסת העולם הייחודית בטיפול בילד החולה ובבני משפחתו - כל אלה מציבים את בית החולים במקום שיכול למלא את לב כולנו בגאווה. לא בכדי מהווה שניידר מותג מוביל של הכללית ומרכז מצוינות בתחומים רבים. לא במקרה הוא מודל לחיקוי ואבן שואבת לסטודנטים לרפואה, לרופאים מתמחים ולמומחים מהארץ ומהעולם. מזה שנים שהשם "שניידר" מהווה מילה נרדפת לרפואת ילדים מצוינת ושגור בפי כל הורה במדינת ישראל. בשנות השמונים, כשמייסדי בית החולים הלן וארווינג שניידר הציגו את החזון, הרעיון של בית חולים עצמאי המוקדש כולו לילדים נראה חלום בלתי אפשרי. כיום ברור כי השוני בתפיסה על ייעודיות לילדים נובעים מהקמתו של – וההכרה בהתמחויות מרכז שניידר. החלום הפך למציאות, שאי אפשר לדמיין את חיינו בלעדיה. הצלחתו של מרכז שניידר נובעת בראש ובראשונה מהאיכויות המיוחדות של ההון האנושי שהתגבש סביב בית החולים. היכולת של צוותי שניידר לעשות כל שניתן למתן חיים ואיכות חיים, למען התקווה והחיוך של רבבות ילדים - היא זו העושה את בית החולים שלנו למה שהוא. רבים מהרופאים הבכירים של מרכז שניידר עוטרו לאורך השנים בפרסים ובהוקרות, ולשניים מהם אף הוענק פרס ישראל לחקר הרפואה. כאן גם המקום להודות לכל העובדים הנפלאים שלנו, בכל תפקיד ובכל סקטור, שבעבודתם יומית ממחישים מהי מצוינות; למתנדבים העושים מלאכת – היום קודש, ולעמותות הפועלות בבית החולים על העזרה החשובה בגיוס תורמים למען מרכז שניידר ומטופליו.
